Scribe Video Center Program:

The Documentary History Project for Youth (DHPY) is an annual after-school, weekend and summertime digital media production workshop for middle and high school students. Each year, youth participants create short documentary films as a way to explore some aspect of the social, political and cultural history of Philadelphia. The compilation features 6 films.

Through interviews with environmental engineers, Wake Up World examines issues that affect public health and safety in Philadelphia. The continued existence of our world goes beyond manufacturing and factories; we too can contribute to its restoration. Runtime 16:34.

The Difference Between Him and I by Kyla Gladney-Enos & Taylor Johnson 

This documentary incorporates the narratives of women, unified and determined in their own knowledge of self that they are more than simple societal expectations. Women in various professions talk about their experience of sexism in the workplace. Runtime 13:05.

Changing Streets by Marvin Cooper & Tymir Oveida

Gentrification is taking a toll on both Philadelphia’s residents and its students. Changing Streets takes a look at the issue from the perspective on an urban planner, a Temple student, and a Philadelphia entrepreneur, specifically examining Temple University an it’s role in gentrifying the surrounding community.  Runtime 11:12.

Awaken to Activism: The Fight to Maintain our Public Schools by Geronimo Murray & Malcolm Margasak

Awaken to Activism examines the evolution of activism in the Philadelphia Public School District through issues and methods. Through interviews with activists who participated in the 1967 student strike, and current day members of the Philadelphia Student Union, connections are made between the two time periods and ongoing struggles for reform. Take us Seriously: The September 20th Climate Strike by Noah Eggerts & Jennifer Wilson

Take Us Seriously documents Philadelphia’s participation in a major climate strike which happened on September 20^th, 2019. The youth activists who organized the strike are interviewed, explaining their process, and issues facing the movement are explored.  Runtime 11:49.
