Why is the art of community storytelling and remembrance important to social justice movements? One answer is that we exist in a climate that is hell-bent on silencing our voices and disappearing our histories. Inspired by the One Book, One Philadelphia 2022 selection, My Broken Language by Quiara Algería Hudes, "All The Things We Remember: Honoring Trans & Queer Storytelling" is an interactive event that will highlight community storytelling through discussion, photographs and video.
Panel of Storytellers inclues:

Abdul-Aliy Muhammad (they/them) is a Philadelphia-born writer, organizer, and co-founder of the Black and Brown Workers Co-op. In their work, they often trouble ideas of medical surveillance, bodily autonomy, and Blackness.

louie ortiz-fonseca (he/they) is the Director of LGBTQ Health & Rights at Advocates for Youth, where he works in partnership with young people living with HIV to combat stigma, and hosts a YouTube series for LGBTQ youth, Kikis with Louie. Outside of the organization, Louie is the creator of Gran Varones, a digital storytelling project that amplifies queer history, and is a Ford Public Voices Fellow.

Madelyn Morrison (she/her), a Black transwoman born and raised in Philly, is the director of The Bryson Institute at the Attic Youth Center, a trans activist, and acts as a force of resistance to discrimination, injustice and violence against Black and Brown folks of all intersections.

Naiymah Sanchez (she/her/Ella) is a proud Trans-Philadelphian, who has been organizing within the community for over a decade. Throughout her years of work, Naiymah has collaborated with other community leaders to work on an intersectional approach to Education and Liberation through a lens of gender & racial justice. Naiymah is the Current Trans Rights Organizer at the ACLU of Pennsylvania and contributes to the work needed to keep Trans and nonbinary Pennsylvanians' voices in the conversation about Reform and Human Rights.

The event will take place in person as well as online--please RSVP to attend or to receive a livestream link.
