Beverly Singer
Beverly Singer made Diabetes: Notes from Indian Country (2000) in Nebraska and South Dakota. Beverly is a documentary filmmaker from Santa Clara Pueblo whose visual interventions explore contemporary Indigenous peoples lives and perspectives. She is Associate Professor Emerita of Anthropology and Native American Studies and was the founding Director of the Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies at the University of New Mexico. She recently (2016) helped with organizing and producing a K-6 Indigenous language curriculum for her community’s elementary school using the entire pueblo history, culture and place as basis of study about themselves. She is the author of Wiping the War Paint Off the Lens: Native American Film and Video (Minnesota, 2001).
