Street Movies!

STREET MOVIES! 2024 - It's a wrap!

27th annual Street Movies! Featuring FREE Outdoor Films, Music, and Poetry

Scribe Video Center is bringing independent and award-winning films from local and international filmmakers to outdoor community spaces near you! Screenings are free, open to the public, and family-friendly. Each night will feature a live performance and a specially curated lineup of short films that celebrates culture and community, explores social issues, and sparks engaging discussion. Mark your calendars now for a nearby screening, and make sure to bring your friends, neighbors, and family members!

Street Movies! is driven by an emphasis to feature work by BIPOC, non-binary, and women filmmakers. Titles from Scribe’s extensive library of co-produced community history projects are also showcased throughout the summer series, exploring the rich stories of our communities, public spaces, and community landmarks.

Film Programs will include curated selections from independent filmmakers such as Dear Philadelphia (Dir. Renee Osubu), a powerful story documenting fatherhood, forgiveness, and community in North Philadelphia, On The Fenceline: A Fight for Clean Air (Dir. Tara Eng, Kristen Harrison, Alex Klein, and Alisha Tamarchenko) an empowering documentary following community organizers on a journey to shut down the east coast’s largest oil refinery and fight for their right to breathe, and Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma (Dir. Topaz Jones & rubberband.), a Sundance-Winning Op-Doc taking viewers on a visual and musical journey through artist Topaz Jones’ education on his own Black identity.

Performance Highlights this year include critically acclaimed poet and author, M. Nzadi Keita, who will read a selection of her work at Germantown’s Vernon Park on Thursday, August 8th. Hudson River, a vibraphonist completing her 2024 Residency at Chris’s Jazz Café will perform at Mifflin Square Park on Wednesday, August 14th. Singer, songwriter, and activist Samantha Rise will perform in Grays Ferry on Saturday, August 17th. Che Guerrero, a revolutionary voice on the modern comedy scene, will share stories rooted in his experiences growing up undocumented at Esperanza Arts Center on Saturday, August 10th.

Thank you to the Independence Public Media Foundation for supporting Scribe’s 2024 Street Movies! series.
